(From an interview with Diane Roche, Direct Marketing Manager, Booker)
ONEPOST: Why did you decide to use ONEPOST to co-ordinate your postage requirements?
DR: “I have obviously needed to watch the postage situation for a while now, and ONEPOST has been right at the front of monitoring changes, researching possible options and developing answers - and as the people there have mailing house backgrounds, those answers are extremely practical."
“I felt confident that they were ideally placed to offer me a full postal management service on all my DM postal issues. I found the idea of their independence from any one provider very appealing, and therefore the choices they can offer can adapt to what will be a fast-changing marketplace, without me or my staff having to master all the detail.”
ONEPOST: Did you have any concerns about working outside the ‘comfort zone’ of the Royal Mail?
DR: “Yes of course. But ONEPOST only work with providers licensed by Postcomm, and therefore, subject to their stringent quality measures.
ONEPOST: What quality of service assurances have you had?
DR: “ONEPOST comprehensively ‘seed’ my mailings and monitor delivery times across the UK.”
ONEPOST: What impact if any did using ONEPOST have on your mailing operations?
DR: “If anything a positive one. The mailing house I use found the sortation and operational side very straightforward, in fact, without the need to bundle and bag, it seems simpler. Anyway, there were certainly no additional charges from the mailing house".
“ONEPOST worked closely with them to ensure everything ran smoothly on the first mailing and has subsequently kept in contact and supported them where necessary, which hasn’t been needed very much at all.”
ONEPOST: You’re in a highly competitive market sector, and presumably even a short delay to your mailings can impact dramatically on your business – has using an alternative delivery method to the Royal Mail affected your delivery times?
DR: “There’s no denying, at the start I was concerned that using somebody else might cause us a problem if the mailings were late. But in fact it has improved the delivery times by at least a day".
“And, because I now know exactly to the day when my mailings will hit, I can confidently plan my back office resources. That’s a bit of a change from Mailsort 2 where the deliveries could be spread over a three day period".
“This all means we can be even more responsive in a very fast paced market such as ours, enabling us to react to competitors prices quickly.”
ONEPOST: Has using a different PPI had any impact on the visual appeal of your mailing?
DR: “No, in fact I feel it has made it stand out.”
ONEPOST: What other benefits have you had from using ONEPOST as a supplier?
DR: “I now feel confident that I have a good source of independent information about changes in the postal marketplace. It’s going to change and keep changing and I don’t want to spend my time keeping up with subtle shifts in policy and pricing… after all, my business is food, not postage"
“But, very much for the sake of that business, I have to ensure I’m getting the most cost effective result for my direct marketing campaigns, so I do need to work with a company I can trust.”
ONEPOST: Why didn’t you choose to go direct to one of the licensed providers?
DR: “I don’t believe that’s the way the postal market is going. Most of the providers will not offer a seamless national service – everybody will have their strengths and weaknesses. Going through ONEPOST we can ‘cherry pick’ the best combination for any particular mailing file - the best price for the best service at any given time without the bother of trawling the market myself"
“By going direct to one of the licensed carriers, I would be having to contractually commit myself to one provider when this market is changing so fast.”
ONEPOST: Talking of contracts, what are the main commitments you have had to make with ONEPOST?
DR: “Well that’s another very good point, there are no ongoing contracts each mailing is treated separately. They are just confident that I will want to stay with them because of the strength of the deal, and the quality of the service".
“I guess if they are going to keep giving me the most cost effective solution in the market each and every time for all my varying mailings, then there is very little reason to change!”
