Zonal pricing
Many postal operators charge a universal price per item regardless of where in in the country it is being delivered to.
However, some downstream access operators are now offering a zonal pricing option whereby customers can be charged varying rates according to the delivery destination.
- Zone A - Commercial Centre
- Zone B - Urban
- Zone C - Surburban
- Zone D - Rural
- Zone E - Deep Rural
The pricing structure is based on it being more expensive to deliver to households in rural areas, and cheaper to deliver to built up commercial areas.
ONEPOST’s unique software is able to analyse your mailing profile to determine if a zonal solution will maximise postal savings.
For example, if postcodes sit within zones A and B where prices are cheaper than the universal price, a zonal solution wll be recommended. If postcodes sit within zones D and E where prices are higher than the universal price, a non zonal solution will be recommended.
In the news
There has been much controversy regarding Royal Mail’s application to introduce zonal pricing. The proposals differ from the current downstream access zonal pricing solution (above) in terms of zones and pricing structure.
